I have been trying to get a picture of a blue heron in our neighborhood for a long time. Went for a walk this morning since I figured it might be too hot and humid tonight. As I rounded the curve to the boat launching site, I was shocked to see the heron just posing there on the dock. I turned the camera on, checked my setting and slowly walked closer. Took a bunch of pictures and then slowly walked a little closer took some pictures and then slowly walked a little closer. As an added bonus, a duck swamp by. After I snapped a bunch of pictures, I changed the settings on the camera to action as I figured he was going to take off pretty soon and sure enough – he did – I got a couple of shots before he disappeared. This one turned out the best

You didn’t bring the big lens again – when will you learn? Went for my walk later than usual this morning. When I walked down the path to the marina, I didn’t see the heron but he was there on the way back. I bet if I bring the big lens next time I won’t even see him,

After I left the marina, I checked out the little pond and there was the heron again. He is teasing me – I did not have the big lens – when will I learn!!! Tried taking a few pictures but the grasses and bushes have gotten so high this was the best shot I could get.

It was late before I could go for a walk tonight n search of my photo of the day. As I got close to the beach, I noticed the heron flying around and thought – darn, I missed it again. Then I noticed it landed on the dock. So I stopped and stood still for a minute and then slowly and quietly crept as close to the water as I could. Took several pictures before he took off. This is the best of the bunch. It was dark and I did not have my telephoto lens with me – but it’s closer than the other night. Guess I will have to take the big lens with me until I get a good shot of this guy. Maybe the third time will be the charm

Now where did I dock my boat?
What a beautiful day and a beautiful evening for a walk. When I got to the first beach, I saw the heron fly by. Wow that’s the second time that happened to me. Oh well – one of these daysI will be able to get a photo. Then I walked over to the marina. Sat one the end of the pier – took some pictures and then I looked over at one of the piers and noticed the heron standing on the pier. I only managed to get one photo before he took off. When I uploaded it, I asked my husband what should I title it and he came up with where did i dock my boat. Perfect

While we were at the overlook, we noticed about six herons. They were quite a distance away and even though we put the big lens on the camera we were not sure how the pictures would turn out.
