Target Rock at Grafton Pond. The guide at Grafton Pond pointed out Target Rock and told us that during World War II someone painted a target on one of the rocks since Grafton was close to Springfield where they manufactured a lot of items for the war but when I went on line to find some more detail it said the rock was used as a marker by a man who lived in the area in the 1940’s and 50’s. He flew airplanes and the rock was like a flight tower, marking a spot close to where he could land his airplane on a grassy runway .
We have been to Grafton numerous times but had never heard of the Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center so had to check it out this visit. It’s 2,000 acres of amazing scenery, trails and grounds. They offer swimming, hiking, mountain biking, and cross country skiing. If you are ever in Grafton it’s well worth a visit.
