Hooper Straight Lighthouse at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum in St Michaels

The Hooper Strait Lighthouse, now standing on Navy Point, was originally built in 1879 to light the way for boats passing through the shallow, dangerous shoals of Hooper Strait, a thoroughfare for boats bound from the Chesapeake Bay across Tangier Sound to Deals Island or places along the Nanticoke and Wicomico Rivers. As a “screwpile” lighthouse, it is built on special iron pilings which were tipped with a screw that could be turned into the muddy bottom for a depth of 10 feet or more. The Museum’s lighthouse is the second lighthouse constructed at Hooper Strait – the first one was destroyed by ice in 1877.

Another rainy day but April showers are supposed to bring May flowers.  After supper, went out in the yard to see what I could find.  Was surprised that my white azaleas are in full bloom.  Amazing what you can find in your yard.

Rainy day today.  Was trying to decide what to use for photo of the day when I noticed all the blossoms on the road, the grass – just everywhere.  So I headed to my neighbor’s yard and took a bunch of photos.  Like the contrast of the pink with the tree trunk

Since we were out having fun on Friday and Saturday, had to run errands and do some chores around the house today.  So, I headed to the backyard to see if I could find anything to catch my eye.  Was surprised to see that the two tulips were still in bloom and that the white azalea bush behind it was in full bloom.  Thought the bush might be a good background against the pink tulips.  Really like how the picture turned out – seems to have a soft dreamy feel to it.
