Rainy day today. Headed to a candy store that everyone raves about

This is just part of their selection Decisions decisions. We will be back .

Didn’t realize when I took this picture that Vermont would be backwards

Then we decided to check out Lake Powell State Park. Don’t know how we have missed it in all our trips to Vermont. It was raining so we didn’t get to spend as much time there as we would have liked

Then we headed to Weston but the Vermont Country Store was packed so we decided to skip it

Marble House Project is a multi disciplinary artist residency program

Orvis is a must if you are ever in Manchester, Vermont. It’s Michael favorite store but he didn’t find anything today. I think that’s a first.

Dorset Marble Quarry opened in 1785 and is the first marble quarry in the US. it supplied marble to the New York Public Library, and several amazing mansions in NYC. Today the quarry is a much loved place for swimming

Old grist mill on Dorset Hollow Road

Relaxing in front of a fire Perfect ending to a fall day in Vermont

Stopped at Dorset Union Store to pick up sandwiches for dinner and the Three Pears Gallery is all decorated for fall lot more pumpkins that I remember from past years

Decided to head back to Crawford Notch to see if we could get some good photos

Stopped at pond by the Wiley House first.

Then we headed to the Notch. Luckily there were not that many tourists there today so we managed to get a good parking spot and were able to take some great photos

Then we stopped by the Flume

Then we headed to North Conway to check out Zeb’s country store. Bought an ornament and another gnome.

So far this is the only moose we have seen

Then we stopped at Thorne Pond and continued to the Saco River. It was a rocky path to get to river

Headed back to B and B but had to stop for more pumpkin people this one won second prize

This one is by a winery

Once we got back to the B and B we stopped at main part of Inn and one of the owners told us that Samuel Bemis owned over 10,000 acres that included most of Crawford Notch. Current owners own his house and over 115 acres. He bought one of the first cameras in 1840 and took the first known landscape photographs

Rainy day today. Went to Echo Lake Park

Then we headed to the Kancamagus Highway and spotted this covered bridge. There were even picnic tables inside

Lots of these signs along the road but no moose sightings yet

Albany Covered Bridge.  We were walking back to the car and a lady was taking a picture

and I thought wow that’s a different angle.

Views from the bridge

View from one of the overlooks

Michael reminded me that we have a photo of these red leaves at home that we framed. It’s probably a lot sharper since it was taken with our Nikon camera. I am going to have to look for it when we get home

More pumpkin people. This display won 3rd place. It’s on the grounds of the Seasons Resort.  So they tried to cover all the seasons

Headed up to Crawford Notch to try and take some photos but it was packed. No place to park. Have never seen it this busy. We did manage to find a parking spot just down the road so we could get a picture of the falls. It was cold and windy. We should have packed hats and gloves. But not to worry there is an Eddie Bauer outlet nearby

Then we headed to Jackson in search of pumpkin people

The Spice Girls won first prize.  The pumpkin people below were all on display in Jackson at the Snowflake Inn

Stopped for gas and spotted this old pump. Michael’s grandfather used to work for Mobile Oil.  If you look closely looks like highest it could register is $9.99.  I remember when $3.00 used to fill the gas tank

Spotted this old Coke machine and had to take a photo. We used to have one of these in the store

Then we headed back to the Notchland Inn.  Right across from the Inn is the Saco River.  A little chilly for a picnic today

October 13, 2023

We forgot the battery and charger for our camera but we were able to order one from Amazon and have it delivered the next day to an Amazon locker. Very convenient. Thank goodness Of all things to leave at home. Luckily we were able to take a lot of photos with our iPhones.  I have an iPhone 14 and it takes great pictures. Then yesterday, we realized we did not have any polarizers for the camera.  We checked Amazon but delivery to New Hampshire could take several days. Luckily we found a camera shop in Rutland Vermont. They had an old camera from the 1850s

They also had some old cameras on a high shelf. Tried to take a picture but it came out dark. My mother had a Kodak Brownie that looks like the one in the middle. I also remember one that was shaped like a box. Wish I still had both of them.

It’s amazing to think I can now take photos on my iPhone

Long travel day from Saratoga Springs New York to New Hampshire.

Notchland Inn We think it’s our fourth time here

Train tracks run close to the Inn. We are going on a train trip Tuesday and may even go on these tracks

Michael suggested we drive to Lake Moreau State Park and it turned out to be a great idea.  We have been to Saratoga Springs several times but just discovered this park

Red leaves are my favorite
This is just a few of the canoes
Picnic tables all lined up
Michael in the distance waiting for me.  Love the reflections

There were several canoes throughout the park. Not sure if that’s a big weed in the middle
