Violent thunderstorms swept through our area Friday night. There were wind gusts of up to 80 miles an hour. It was really scary watching all of the trees in our backyard sway with the wind. We lost power around 11:30 pm. Saturday morning we got up and walked around the neighborhood to see the damage. Luckily we only lost a big tree limb in our yard. The neighbors on one side of us lost a big tree – it fell onto part of the wooden play set and a fence. The neighbors behind us also lost a tree. We walked around the neighborhood and this tree is just down the street from us. When it landed it took out a lot of power lines and some other trees. Also discovered another tree across the road on the other end of our street. The utility company showed up late last night and took care of cleaning up that tree but this tree is still across the road. There are around 90,000 people without power in AA County and our 400,000 in area that BGE serves. Said it could take up to a week for power to get restored. Sure hope not since we are in the midst of a heat wave.
