Chilly morning. It was 56 degrees this morning

Drove thru Smuggler’s Notch to St Albans. We have driven all over Vermont but have never been to St Albans. There was a farmers market in town and we purchased a beautiful stained glass piece of Mt Mansfield and a bottle of wine. We found a nice park right alongside Lake Champlain

Then we decided to go to Jericho It’s been several years since we were there

The Old Red Mill houses the Historical Society Museum, Snowflake Bentley Exhibit and a craft shop Snowflake Bentley was the first person to photographs single snow crystal

We stopped at the Edelweiss Mountain Deli for some great turkey sandwiches Got back to the Inn and we both tried to open the wine. Finally had to ask one of the other guests to try. He changed corkscrews and opened it.

Started the day in downtown Stowe. I have a picture of church from a distance but decided to take one from the front of church

Starbucks is now in Stowe along with 4 other coffee shops

Next up another covered bridge

Then onto the Stowe Toll Road. It cost over $51 to drive the 4.5 miles to the top of Mt Mansfield. Beautiful views of the Adirondack Mountains

There is a small ledge on back of red pole for you to place your phone so you can set a timer and take a photo of you in the background.

Then back to the Inn. It was a beautiful afternoon we sat outside. View from just outside our room

Then off to dinner at the Backyard

Had to take a picture of this place before we left Bennington. We asked our server at breakfast if she knew what it originally was. She said she didn’t know. All she knew was that it was an historic site and could not be demolished. Guess they need Chip and JoAnna

Was surprised to see two fairly new birdhouses and a dry flower arrangement on front porch

We have both decided to stop in Bellows Falls for some coffee and chai tea Stopped at a great cafe

Stopped at their cafe to get some cold water and discovered

Next stop Simon Pearce. Great display as you walk in the front door

Made it to Stowe at 4 pm just in time to check in to Stone Hill Inn. One of our favorite bed snd breakfasts.

Went out to dinner at Doc Ponds and as we pulled into parking lot someone told us to careful there was a bear in the tree. It was hard to get a good shot of the bear but the hamburgers were delicious

Beautiful day today. Started out looking for covered bridges. Then went to Bennington Monument. We have seen it from a distance but never close up. Then to Robert Frost’s home where he lived in the 1920’s where he wrote Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Last stop the Old First Church. Which was completed in 1805. They are in the midst of a major renovation project so there is a lot of scaffolding. Will have to stop once project is finished and hopefully we will be able to see the inside. Robert Frost’s grave is behind the church

Vacation time. Left at 10 instead of 9 and got stuck in traffic backup. Emergency repairs on Kent Narrows Bridge. Only one lane. Made good time until we got to Troy. Next time we will leave at 9

Staying in Bennington at Four Chimneys Bed and Breakfast. We haven’t been in Bennington in years

The rain finally stopped

Then we decided to head to Southern Vermont Art Center. One of the many sculptures throughout the grounds

Then on to the exhibit Love of Vermont. The Lyman Orton Collection. Mr Orton is the owner of the Vermont Country Store. He was kind enough to autograph his book The Collection focuses primarily on work from 1920 to 1960, and includes many of the artists who set the stage for the Southern Vermont Arts Center.

There was another exhibit of Sally Mavor’s work. it is a view of a wide array of original picture book illustrations spanning her career, including the entire series of artwork for her most recent book, MY BED: Enchanting Ways to Fall Asleep around the World. This was one of my favorites since I am a knitter.

Didn’t realize when I took this picture that Vermont would be backwards

Then we decided to check out Lake Powell State Park. Don’t know how we have missed it in all our trips to Vermont. It was raining so we didn’t get to spend as much time there as we would have liked
